New Blog Series: Students at the Center Everyday

September 18, 2015

The Students at the Center Hub curates and documents the best student-centered practices online and off to provide the field with strategies to enhance learning experiences for all young people. We prioritize resources, tools, and experiences that reflect the heart of our mission: that all students have access to meaningful opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge, and dispositions needed for success in college, the workforce, and in civic life. All resources and highlighted practices meet our parameters for alignment and quality, guided by our vetting tools. To add depth and real voices to these resources, and to raise the visibility of student-centered learning in New England and beyond, we are happy to announce the launch of a blog series Students at the Center Everyday that will run throughout the school year. The blogs will touch on topics and themes showcasing student-centered approaches to learning in the classroom, school, and community.

The goal of the series is to provide examples of the Students at the Center Framework in action—showcasing that student-centered learning is actionable, accessible, and impactful. The series will include diverse perspectives on the teaching and the learning that happens in a student-centered learning environment. After each reflection, we will also be providing connections from the field directly to our framework.

We certainly hope you will find these stories relatable and engaging. But more importantly, we share them to demonstrate the range of student-centered learning practices that exist, and how they can be implemented in a variety of learning environments.

The series will launch this Friday, September 25, 2015 with an in-depth look at C-Town Tech, a new information technology based program at Charlestown High School. This summer, students gathered for a bridge program that helped them hone their math skills, collaborate with their future peers, and get introduced to new technologies in a hands-on, inviting way. We’ll hear from a student, teacher, and professor.

The Students at the Center Everyday series will continue every Friday, so check back to follow the C-Town Tech project and other stories.
