The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is the only national professional membership organization focused on school librarians and the school library community. AASL has more than 7,000 members and serves school librarians in the United States, Canada, and around the world. The website includes materials to facilitate school library program advocacy and research on the importance of library programs. The site also includes many resources on student learning standards and library program guidelines.

AASL awards a variety of recognitions, including the National School Library of the Year award and the Best Websites for Teaching and Learning recognition. The organization also offers professional development opportunities to its members in the form of a national conference held every two years and numerous online courses and webinars on a wide variety of topics such as teaching project-based learning and infusing literacy skills in inquiry process. Members also receive print and online journals, as well as a monthly e-newsletter.
