Designing for Equity in Next Generation Learning

By Next Generation Learning Challenges

This toolkit was created to provide support and inspiration to educators and community members who wish to have more meaningful, transparent and transformative conversations about equitable learning. The toolkit was developed by Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC), an initiative of Educause Learning Initiative, a nonprofit community of higher education institutions and organizations committed to the advancement of learning through the innovative application of technology.

The toolkit was developed from resources used by teachers and leaders in the NGLC Regional Funds for Breakthrough Schools, seven organizations engaged in communities of practice that share a next generation mindset and equity lens. Some tools were developed by these partners, and others are already existing resources that they used. The tools are divided into five types: design principals, discussion protocols, professional learning, frameworks, and school culture tools for restorative justice. Each section provides links to several tools, a description of how the tools support equity, and an explanation of how they were used by the partners.

Educators and community leaders may use these tools in many different ways to nurture a commitment to, and fold equity into any school improvement planning.
