Too many young, black men struggle in America’s education system. Washington D.C. is trying to do something about it with a new, boys-only high school. NPR’s Cory Turner and Education Week’s Kavitha Cardoza spent hundreds of hours there, reporting on the birth of a school built on one word: Love.

Code Switch, an NPR podcast, partnered with Education Week to create a three-episode audio documentary about Ron Brown College Preparatory High School. Ron Brown is a Washington D.C. all-male public school that provides “student-centered, college preparatory curriculum that will develop and enhance young men’s character, academic curiosity, and service.” Learn about this remarkable school in these three episodes.

To further the conversation, educators and members of the community might listen to this episode of the Kojo NNamdi Show on WAMU radio, ‘Raising Kings’ – When Should Academics Be Sacrificed For Emotional Learning?, which dives into many of the issues raised in the series. The show features the NPR and Education Week reporters who put together the series as well as the principal of the school, Ben Williams.
