The goal of this webinar was to think through the roles of different education stakeholders in developing opportunities for parents from historically marginalized communities to meaningfully engage in school reform. Using her new book, A Cord of Three Strands, as a framework, Dr. Soo Hong from Wellesley College presented a new approach to parent engagement in schools based on her study of the Logan Square Neighborhood Association in Chicago. Her presentation was followed by presentations from different people involved in the Logan Square Neighborhood work: Monica Espinoza, parent leader; Bridget Murphy, community organizer with the Logan Square Neighborhood Association; Stephen Zirke, Chief Area Officer for Chicago Public Schools; and Thomas Hoffman, Principal of Ames Middle School in Chicago. The presentations were followed by an opportunity for questions and answers from webinar participants. This overview provides a summary of the event.
