More and more students are taking part in some type of online learning. To guide educators, families, and students, the Virtual Learning Leadership Alliance and Quality Matters have created new national standards for virtual education. This is the first revision of these standards, originally written the Aurora Institute (formerly known as iNACOL), in ten years. There is a separate set for online teaching, programs, and courses.
These standards will be of interest to a wide variety of stakeholders. State or district leaders might use them when selecting online programs or teachers might use them to improve delivery on online courses. Before diving in, this article from EdWeek provides a great overview of the revision process.
