This report provides an overview of the rise and reasons for the use of restorative justice in schools and a summary of practices currently being used. It also explores the successes and challenges of these practices. The report includes a list of related, relevant reports/research on the topic. Of note are “Restorative Justice in U.S. Schools: A Research Review,” which summarizes the literature on restorative justice in schools to date, and “Restorative Justice in U.S. Schools: Practitioners’ Perspectives,” which presents the findings of interviews with school staff currently incorporating restorative practice in their schools. These related WestEd materials may be useful to any school staff member in a school or district considering the use of restorative practices. Together they provide an excellent picture of the current research and lessons learned in the field to date.
