2017 State of the States: Connectivity

By EducationSuperHighway
October 16, 2017

This report was compiled by EducationSuperHighway, a nonprofit focused on upgrading Internet access in every public school classroom in America to ensure equal access of all students to digital learning opportunities. The report looks at ways to connect the remaining 6.5 million students in 40 states that still have limited access. The authors detail three main actions to close the gap:

  • Improve affordability for schools
  • Expand high-speed fiber connections, especially in rural areas
  • Put wi-fi in every classroom

This report is a call to governors and state leaders, service providers, and school districts to fulfill a promise to improve equity by improving internet access. It includes detailed action plans for each of those stakeholder groups.
