Diversity Talks

Diversity Talks is a Rhode Island organization dedicated to bringing students to the forefront of conversations about race and equity. This group, founded by two students and a teacher, trains students to lead teacher professional development around race and diversity. The founders believe that to help schools address issues of inequality in education, students’ own voices must be at the center of any discussions. This article in EdSurge provides a good overview of the  work of this organization as well as their expansion into Nevada.

School leaders and educators might consider partnering with this group which offers student-led trainings for a fee. Training topics include:

  • LGBTQ,
  • microaggressions,
  • implicit bias, and
  • student voice.

Educators may also glean valuable lessons from this website and accompanying article in order to make conversations about race and diversity at their schools more student-focused.
