As states, districts and schools re-design education systems to move from more traditional approaches to a system focused on success for every student, the 16 design principles outlined in this book provide a cohesive framework that offers a set of guideposts for schools and districts.

This book will be useful to all district leaders and educators working towards a mastery-based system, regardless of the level of or specific approach to implementation. The principles can be used to spark discussion that will accelerate the shift from a traditional to a competency-based system. This Competency Works blog is an excellent addition to tool, with  links to articles written on each of the 16 principles for those that want to dive deeper.
