By Kerry Gallagher
December 5, 2016

This article highlights four strategies for using technology to improve learning and empower students which the author, Kerry Gallagher, a Digital Learning Specialist, hopes teachers will embrace. Each fall she surveys trends in the ed tech landscape and shares thoughts for the coming year. First, she hopes educators will teach students to create with virtual and augmented reality. Secondly, she encourages more project-based learning experiences based around real community problems. Thirdly, she hopes for more opportunities for students to use coding skills across the whole curriculum. Lastly, she hopes Open Education Resources (OERs) will become better curated to increase their usability, and that teachers will include students in this work.

This author’s suggestions could be used as a starting point for conversations between educators on how to utilize ed tech in ways that are more student-centered.
