This whiteboard presentation gives an excellent overview of proficiency-based learning for students, narrated by students. It outlines key reasons students should be excited about proficiency-based learning. The student narrators describe the benefits of a more accurate assessment system which recognizes failure as a step in the learning process, a personalized approach, and the ability to move at the pace that is comfortable in each subject. The presentation also covers the key components needed to achieve proficiency and provides concrete examples. Lastly, the presentation discusses the development of 21st-century skills that will help students through college and career and also addresses the fears students might have about acceptance of non-traditional report cards at colleges and universities.

This presentation could be shown to students and their families at any school beginning a shift towards competency-based learning to gain their support.
