This video, a part of the Deeper Learning video series, features instructors and students from High Tech Middle and High Tech High Media Arts School in San Diego, California. The video illustrates how teachers collaborate across disciplines to engage students in real world projects that capitalize on their passions and foster deep learning. The excellent visuals of students engaged in hands-on learning bring these six components of deeper learning to life:

  • Mastering core academic content
  • Thinking critically and solve complex problems
  • Working collaboratively
  • Communicating effectively
  • Learning how to learn
  • Developing academic mindsets

This video is a useful tool for educators to see project-based learning in action. It provides an especially good look at the role of the teachers to collaboratively plan projects and mentor students as they carry out and present their work. Educators can go deeper by exploring the deeper learning series video library or the Students at the Center Educator Competencies for Personalized, Learner-Centered Teaching. Additionally, HTH Graduate School of Education runs workshops and school visits for educators who want to master the strategies employed at High Tech schools.
