Quality and Equity by Design: Charting the Course for the Next Phase of Competency-Based Education

This report seeks to advance K-12 competency education by examining key factors required to bring competency education to scale while ensuring quality and sustainability. Specifically, it looks at four issues:

  • Quality
  • Equity
  • Meeting students where they are
  • Policy

The report incorporated feedback and recommendations from stakeholders who attended the National Summit on K-12 Competency-Based Education.  It provides actionable recommendations on how the field can advance through the next wave of innovation and implementation.

These resources will appeal to a wide range of stakeholders including educators, policymakers, and researchers and can deepen understanding of competency education and encourage dialogue. For more reading, this article provides an overview and look at the questions that formed the basis for the original papers. An ongoing blog series continues the conversation on many of the issues raised in the report. The four draft papers that influenced this final report provide even more insight on these topics:
